How to Make Groupon Work for You
Let’s talk about Groupon and other “coupon” sites.
Essentially you post a discounted rate for your product or service on the site. Groupon (or other similar company) takes a percentage of each sale that is made.
You aren’t typically making very much for each sale that is made (for example you promote a one hour massage for a discounted rate of $49). Groupon will probably take about half of that. But here is how you do make money.
-
A good number of people who buy your “Groupon” won’t actually cash it in. So you can make money off that sale and not have to provide the service.
-
What you are really wanting to do is to convert that “coupon shopper” into a loyal customer. This works best if you have a service where customers would want/need to keep coming back (waxing, lash fill-ins, massages, etc.) After the service try to sign them up for a follow-up service or possibly a discounted package.
-
When they book your service see if you can up-sell the service (“would you like the combo package for only “X” more?”)
-
Groupon and most sites allow you to post your website (you do have a website, don’t you?) on your listing. So some customers will completely bypass Groupon and book directly with you. Free advertising!
